Why do you want to replace it? It is an accepted word with a specific
meaning. If the reader is versed in statistics, they will ne pleased
you are using the right word and if they aren't, one word will be as
good as another.
You might not like the word, but that doesn't mean it isn't the best
word for those who you are writing. Remember...we write for the
targeted readers, not for ourselves.
