I haven't taken it, but I've written questions for the math portion of the
GMAT in the past. It was an eye-opening experience for me both as a writer
and as a test taker.

After years of studying math (I have an M.S. in Mathematics), it's
challenging to come up with original (or at least quasi-original) scenarios.
Even more challenging is figuring out four plausible WRONG answers to each
problem--two or three, maybe, but the fourth can be a real bear. By
comparison, framing the questions in a straightforward, unambiguous manner
was a piece of cake.

When I accepted my first assignment, I didn't anticipate the research and
brain-racking that writing the questions would require. I figured I could
dash off 15 questions in no time and pocket a nice hourly rate. Such was not
the case.
