Maybe it's just my newspaper training (swat! bad boy!) but when I'm going
down an column and a full-page graphic interrupts me, I go back to the top
of the next column first, and suffer a bit of disorientation before
realizing I should have gone on past the graphic.

To be more specific, if I am reading a two-column page with two full-width
interruptions in the text I:

Start at the top of column 1.

When I encounter graphic A, I look to the top of column 2, expecting the
continuation there.

There's even enough residual effect that when I pick it up in column 1
below graphic A and continue down to graphic B I will start to check column
2 beginning below graphic A before I catch myself and proceed down below
graphic B in column.

But that's just me. YMMV.

Have fun,
