It's more than agreeing to disagree...it's what's accepted in different industries. As I've said before, in the microprocessor design industry, many verbs are used as nouns and sometimes adjectives all the time, such as the following:

-install
-receive
-transmit
-compare
-read(s)
-write(s)

And the ever-present verb: tri-state (or three-state)...yes, a verb.

It's like drilling for oil in 2 different parts of the same town. All the shallow layers look alike, but as you drill down deeper, the geology changes to reflect the local idiosyncracies.

Others have said it: nearly every question to this forum can be answered with "it depends." Too many factors for us to make blanket statements that hold true across all industries and specialties.
