Jane Carnall's suggestion is a good starting point but it will only pick up the obvious, spelling etc but not different word for the same thing. For example, hood/bonnet. As with any translation the ideal is to have it done by a native <g>. I know the last place I worked about 25% of our sales was to the US and all the docs had to be Americanised! Initially this involved the docs being reviewed in the US and then we built up a list of terms that needed to be changed - fit instead of install etc. I think this is probably your best approach if it's at all feasible.
