Tech writing to Marcom: Help

Having read quite a few marketing books, I think one of the better books out
there is _The New Magnet Marketing_ by John R. Graham
(http://www.grahamcomm.com). In spite of the weird title, this book has the
best discussion (that I've read) on how marketing and sales efforts serve an
organization. Once you understand the role of marketing, you'll understand
much better what marketing material needs to do and how to do it. His advice
on selling isn't as good as his advice on marketing, but that's a minor
point. 

You may also want to check out the first few chapters of _The Ultimate
Marketing Plan_ by Dan Kennedy. A lot of people rave about his advice; I
think it's decent on the whole, especially the material on how to structure
a message and how to find people who should receive it.
