Just to be contrary and play devil's advocate, maybe that's why we need
certification: because the schools aren't reliable. :-)

Any way, the argument that schools teach grammar doesn't mean that they
prepare everyone to be a tech-writer. I took some compulsory metal work
in high school, and, while I enjoyed whacking away at the forge, that
doesn't mean I'm qualified to be a blacksmith.
