I've done just what you've done--tried to include a personal "hook" to
jog their memory and make them think I'd be a contributing, proactive
member of their team. Or if they asked a question that I realized later
could have been answered better, I would mention the improved idea.

On an interview for a job I really wanted, the interviewer mentioned a
certain book in connection with design principles. I went to a bookstore
on my way home and read half the book that day. Then I mentioned a couple
of points I learned in my thank-you letter. Did I get that job? No.
Something to do with the HR person's feeling about my lack of total
enthusiasm for their foosball team.

I got a job I like better, in retrospect. I did not even have time to
write a thank-you letter, because they made me an offer the next morning!

Regards,
Ann Hastings

So my question is: when you do this, what do you write?
