At one time, the College of Notre Dame (http://www.cnd.edu/) in Belmont, CA
(Belmont is on the San Francisco penninsula) had and still may have a master's
in English with a specialty in technical writing (or some such). At one time in
the distant past--1970s and 1980s--and currently, Rensselaer Polytechnic
Institute (http://www.rpi.edu/) offers a MS in Technical Communication, which
emphases include technical writing, writing in other nonacademic settings, and
the graphic aspects of text design. Oklahoma State University has master's
programme in technical communication (this last to curry favour with Eric.)
