I remember some teacher way back in high school, or thereabouts, telling us
that underlining was something people did with their typewriters because
they didn't have the capability to do italics. This was before the
wide-spread use of word processors.

I stopped using underlining quite awhile ago, even before the onslaught of
hyperlinks. I always thought that it looked kind of ugly, and
unprofessional.
