Can anybody tell me why Word 2000 includes UML tags in its "HTML" output?

The Word 97 output was messy enough, but it seems now that they are getting
further away from real HTML in some sort of defiance to the standards.

Word does have an HTML output feature. I once looked at the resulting HTML,
using a text editor, and thought it utterly ghastly. All sorts of font tags
and other clutter. Truly horrifying.
