Of course I completely misread the poll question and
started foaming at the mouth about tech writing tests,
where I should have been wildly ranting about
technical knowledge tests. My bad. Moron, over here.
Yup, right here. See? Hi. [grin]

Anyhow, I'm now going to vent similar frustrations
about technical knowledge tests.

1) They don't measure aptitude. Just because someone
doesn't know what reciprocal compensation or a FAT
table is doesn't mean they can't write about it.

2) What do you gain by formal testing over questioning
in an interview? It seems the latter would give you a
better idea of the type if candidate you have before
you.

3) Anyone can memorize definitions and top level
processes.
