Frank,
(From memory)
1. In an old document, click Tools >
Templates and Add-ins. The Templates and
Add-ins dialog box opens.
2. Attach the new template to the old
document by doing this: At the top of
the Templates and Add-ins dialog box,
navigate in the list box to the location
of the new template and select the
template.
3. Select the check box that's right
under the *Attach* list box (is label
says something about "updating styles").
4. Click OK and see if your old styles
have been transformed into your new
styles.
5. If your old styles have been
transformed successfully, go to the next
procedure.
To delete styles from a template:
1. Click Tools > Templates and Add-ins.
2. At the bottom of the dialog box,
click Organizer.
3. In the Organizer, it should be clear
how to delete styles from the new
template. Notice the label above each
pane and delete the old styles from the
new template.(If it isn't clear how to
do it, use Word's online Help, which I
am certain can tell you exactly what to
do.)

You're making an excellent move by
choosing FrameMaker.
