Subject:FW: online help vs. online tutorial From:"Donna Marino" <domarino -at- earthlink -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 28 Feb 2001 13:25:03 -0700
A client has asked me to design and write an online tutorial for an
application used primarily by system administrators. I?ve already written
online help for this product, but for a different audience of users, with
much less computer experience. My question is this: What is the difference
between online help and an online tutorial? I?ve developed several training
courses in a printed format, and have included in each lesson tasks to
perform to become familiar with the application, a review of important
points in the lesson, exercises to test what the user has learned, etc. But
I?m not really sure what to include in a tutorial that a user reads online.
Just as I wouldn?t dump a printed manual online and call it online help, I
don?t want to take a printed tutorial and simply put it online. I?m looking
to take advantage and make the most of the online medium. Does anyone have
suggestions as to what an online tutorial should include?
I?m in digest mode, so if you could send the responses directly to me, I?d
appreciate it. I can post a summary if anyone else is interested.
Thanks for your help,
Donna Marino
