About ten years ago, my company paid a graphics arts company to design a
layout scheme for our documentation and training documents. We then created
Word template with a Wizard for producing shell documents, a custom toolbar
putting in headings and our custom features, keyboard macros for saving
and automating standards, and Autotext for the same reason. It cost us about
for the first version, about $8,000 to $10,000 for subsequent versions.

This template:
* Assured compliance to standards, so that documents written by
one writer looked like similar documents written by another writer.
* Gave us a signature look and feel.
* Increased writer productivity by 30%
* Enhanced our competitiveness
* Made creation and maintenance of internal procedure and
documents more efficient.
* Made training new writers and consultants easier.

Tell me again why I should give this template away?

Tell me, Andrew Plato, why attention to "one-off" work like this
was not worth it?
