Does anyone have any ideas or know of any tools/scripts/macros which could
map and output existing Word files to XML files? When possible, some
filtering mechanism is required to throw away the bad and keep the good,
hidden text, old feature numbers, indexing graphics/tables.
The creatures are two legacy manuals around 1100+ pages and tables (ca. 12
MB) that have to go to the butcher's shop and be migrated into a cms, for
better or worse. Powers that be choose Xmetal as XML editor which has a type
of Word file import function, but it outputs to default DTD. Nothing found
about mapping old MS formats to other DTD in their documentation.
Also, experimented w/Word to Frame6.0 to XML, was told that the Frame
output was unacceptable for the CMS. (just following orders here; too much
hand-work as well). Gut-feeling is Emacs could take the cake and eat the
pie. Just need an XML file fitting to inhouse DTD, but without any traces of
MSword left-behind. (time for purgatory).
ideas/pointers/things to try out?
