my opinion is that somebody, or several somebodies,
just took a purely subjective, personal dislike to you
and nobody will just tell you that's the reason.
*OR*, somebody (or several somebodies) could have perceived you as a major threat. The world is full of barely-competent people who fiercely protect their own positions by taking great pains to hire people who couldn't possibly do their job (much less anything at a higher level).
