TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
For things like this I refer to a book named "Dictionary of Problem Words and
Expressions" by Harry Shaw, 1987, McGraw-Hill, ISBN 0-07-056517-1. The book
explains the usage of lots of word pairs that are often confused, such as affect
and effect, further and farther, principal and principle, as well as individual
words and phrases that are often misused or misunderstood. I know there are
similar books, and probably internet sites that can help.
