<snip> Another TW, indexing, and even internationalization
tie-in: some of my cookbooks are from the UK, so I had to
remember to look up "aubergine." I'm sure that there are
many more examples like this. For instance, chick peas also
need to be cross-referenced with garbanzo beans. </snip>
Funny you should mention internationalization. I had to
translate to my husband what I meant when I said "bongo
beans." That's what my dear ol' muddah called them. And my
husband had to translate to me and the server what he meant
when he asked for "those tiny little moo-cows." That's what
his father called those small buckets of creamer that they
put on your table for your coffee at a restaurant. Or
"cackle-berries" -- what his Mom used to call eggs.
User friendliness tie in: It's like telling a server at a
restaurant that you want a "Nada Colada" (liquor-free Pina
Colada). If the server knows Spanish, they can accurately
interpret what you want, even if that is not an item listed
on their menu because you made up that term, yourself.
