TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Jane Carnall described a company where a manager decreed that "everybody
was to be at their desks and working from 9 to 5, no flexitime whatsoever
permitted, and by the way, people were getting far too flexible about their
lunchbreaks recently, unless you had a special reason, lunch break was noon
to 1pm."
I'm stating the obvious, but... that company had its priorities seriously
messed up. I'm sure I'm not the only TW who would react to such policies
with a resignation letter or (if dire circumstances forced me to
temporarily hang on to the job) seething resentment. When a company cares
less about the quality of my work than about what time my butt hits the
chair, I lose all respect for the company.
