I'd tinker with this only after much thought. After all, users "know" that
links on the web are underlined. Their mental model of the way the web
works depends upon that. If you remove the underlines, you're going to
"break" that model. There's a good chance users may miss the links. There's
another chance that users will be frustrated by it, and attribute your
decision to mere arbitrariness (*this* designer's gotta be different, make
it harder on me) rather than whatever good reason you might have.

I agree there are several bad traditions about links (unvisited is *blue*
not red? underlined?) but changing them now, just for one site or one
designer, is not something to be undertaken lightly.
