Try reading "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James W. Loewen. Basically, a
critique of American History texts. He goes into the textbook selection
process, and discusses why it is that any publisher who wants to
actually sell a text will always fill the history books with lies and
drivel. He then goes on to point out al the lies and drivel.
Elucidating statements like, "...and then a war broke out..." to explain
VietNam.

Text books aren't all that much like what we do... But neither is
American Public Education. If you want to save your kids, read the
texts with them, and find the spots that are obvious crap. Face it, you
won't get them to use real history in public schools.

Cheers cud
