Having been both a contractor and a doc manager (among other things), I
agree wholeheartedly.
The agency and the contractor both have a vested interest in each other's
success. The cut the agency takes varies, and so do the services. This is
one place where networking and professional societies CAN help you find a
good fit, but I agree that IME the NWU has a unionist focus (and generally a
bent toward "creative" writers, rather than "technical" writers). [That's a
different argument. I won't go there.]
So the word for contractors is "shop around and trust your gut!"
