Hi Sean.

You mentioned adding callouts in your DTP app. Makes sense. I'm working in
Word right now, though, and adding callouts there, while possible, is an
imprecise thing.

You said: "I reject all SME screen grabs and make my own." A good policy. I
almost always make my own, but a few times, I've gotten stuck with others'
screen grabs when I didn't have the right security permissions to get to a
particular screen (and it was quicker to have someone send me their bitmap
than to go through the red tape).

As for cropping in screen-capture software, I know the software can do it,
but that too is often imprecise. I can crop it quicker in Photoshop. I once
had someone trying to show me how to crop a screen capture to grab a
toolbar button--that particular capture application could only do
full-window or a selection rectangle, so she kept trying to select a
rectangle right around the button, invariably getting extra rows of pixels
in there. I found it much easier to grab the window, go into Paint (in my
pre-Photoshop days), zoom in, and crop the image.

Later I used screen capture software that could grab just a button or a
toolbar or what-have-you, but I still found it quicker to dump the whole
window into Photoshop and crop it than to memorize a half-dozen different
hotkeys for the capture program's various options.

It's all subjective. I would rather get my hands on the pixels than trust a
capture application to produce exactly the image I want.

YMMV...
Christine

(and while I can't speak for Seagate--all opinions expressed here are my
own, etc., etc.--I'm glad you like your Barracuda!)
