Foreign language study can be helpful in understanding
English... to a point. I think that depends on the
individual and how they study the language. Living three
years overseas, I acquired a reasonable ability in Korean
and Russian (both oral and written).

I found that only when I began thinking in the language did
I make considerable progress. Having been through this
process twice, however, English is a bit difficult for me to
sort out. I don't know whether it is due to learning two
very different languages and thought processes, or my
brain's inability to sort through all the stuff I keep
feeding it.

I can put my thoughts on paper (or screen) because I have
time to sort them out and reorganize them. But oral
communication is still difficult for me. I know what I want
to say, but often it sounds funny when it comes out of my
mouth. Is telecommunication the only way around this?

Where's the balance? Yes, I will graduate with minors in
Korean and Russian, but is it worth the cost?
