For whatever it's worth, I'd like to report that I've belonged to three different STC chapters. The people who make up each chapter define its fields of concentration, and while that's hardly fair, that's the way it is. If a particular chapter attracts "content-philes," they will prevail.
It would be nicer, however, if technical communicators would accept the fact that they represent a profession in which the disciplines and areas of concentration are extremely numerous; it's impossible to be a specialist in all of them, and some persons may well feel left out at times. Again, fair or not, it's just the way it is.
