The answer depends on what platform you're working on. If you're on
UNIX or Linux, you can easily use diff and diff3 to merge documents.
If you just want to append, you can use cat and some directional
pipes. If you're on Windows, you have fewer choices, but, if I
remember correctly, you should be able to use the append command and
can probably rig something together with pipes.

All these suggestions assume that you're working with a plain text
file. Appending or merging a file from a word or document processor
may work, but more can go wrong.
