"Web site" is the logical contraction of "World Wide Web site", but, because
"website" is easier to write and manage, I have seized on the few published
instances that I have seen of it to justify using it in my docs. I think of
it as another coined term, like "electronic mail" > "e-mail" and "e-docs" >
"email" (and soon "edocs"?), that is the result of simplification of a
compound noun through common usage. I encourage you all to get on my
bandwagon (was "band wagon") so we can simplify our work.
