The zip drive click of death has come up a couple of times today. Steve
Gibson has a terrific discussion of it on http://grc.com/clickdeath.htm . He
explains what the click of death really is and how it is passed from drive
to drive (a damaged drive tears up a disk which, when tried on a healthy
drive tears up the healthy drive). He also offers a utility that tests for
incipient death-clickitis.
