First off--No, I don't know exactly what's wrong other than that Word has
famously has had a glitch in autonumbering since at least Word 6/Word 95; I
don't know if fixed in 2000.

Hope this is useful,

I originally sent this e-mail to the Word-PC listerv, but I didn't get an
answer. Does anyone on this list have a suggestion? If so, please respond
off-list to me.

<problem>
I have Word 2000 on an NT platform. I have one document with a page
numbering problem.

The problem is I reset the odd page number of my section 3 to start at "1".
When I update the fields in the document, it resets itself to "3", which
would be the page number after the last page of section 2. Doesn't matter
whether I set the Footer as "Same as previous section" or not. Resets to
"3" regardless.

The document has a template attached, but other documents with that template
behave properly. So I don't believe the problem is in the template.
</problem>
