I've seen it done a number of different ways. B1, B2, B3, B4 is the most
common, in my experience. I've also seen L1, L2, etc. I'm not sure what the
"L" is for!

The floors are numbered in reverse order from above-ground floors. So B1 is
one story _below_ street level, and B2 is two levels below, and so forth.
