Maryland started a statewide telecommuting initiative several years ago and
the department of transportation is now aggressively pushing it for the
private sector. I got the following message recently from the state's
telecommuting czar (see below).

The Clinton administration has been extremely positive on this. Unless
a new administration upsets the cart, the federal government will be
announcing an exciting and sensible "flexiplace" goal in the coming year -
targeting 25% of federal information workers to be working either at
home a couple days per week or at telework centers no further than 30
minutes from home. The Washington DC area has a good web site for up to
date information - www.dctelecommute.org.

If you're stuck with turkeys, there are reasons for hope. If you're in
Maryland, talk to Gil Weidenfeld (see contact information below).
