All:

Thanks for all the responses to my pleas for advice about
version-management applications and FM to HTML applications. The responses
were too numerous and too detailed to summarise, but fortunately most
respondents also copied to the lists. The short answers are:

VERSION CONTROL

Microsoft Visual SourceSafe is perfectly adequate for small document
filesets, but unfortunately it does not support the ODMA -- even though
Word 2000 does! Hmmmm. Canterbury and Documentum are very expensive, need
FM+SGML and a dedicated administrator, and are a lot of work to implement.
Their power and complexity defeats usability.

FM TO HTML

Webworks Publisher and mif2go were neck-and-neck as tools of choice. I
have played with HTML Transit and it seems very good but the per seat costs
are prohibitive. With our current foreign-exchange rate, the $US5000
translates to $AU10,000. So it looks like mif2go and WWP need further
investigation.
