Well, I can't say that I've had longevity anywhere, but as a fairly new
technical writer, I feel totally inadequate when I hear the discussions and
threads you guys have mainly because I haven't had training in tech writing
or longevity, my software experience is limited because I've mainly been in
paper environments, so I don't get to use all the fancy tools.
Therefore when I'm looking elsewhere because I'm bored or feeling unloved in
my environment, I am looking for training in the current software tools, the
ability to speak my opinion and have it respected, not just thrown to the
wayside, the ability to make a difference, people who respect me and the job
I have to perform whether they like it or not. My biggest one though is the
ability to keep learning and not just edit paper documents on an in and out
basis. Just my $.02
