Does Frame suck? No....and yes, sometimes. I think it stands head and
shoulders above the other software I've used, for my purposes. I am part
of a department that writes large manuals to be published in both hard
copy and PDF format. Frame is the best software I've used for building
books, and the tasks that go along with that.

That said, It's not an easy transition from software like Word or
WordPerfect to Frame. It's not as intuitive. It requires more effort to
learn how to do things properly in Frame. I would suggest taking
classes, and getting the "Classroom in a Book" from Adobe. It's worth
the effort. Take a look at the first two issues of InFrame magazine at
www.inframe-mag.com for some tips.

Another thing that might help is to go out to Adobe's web site and
download their templates. Look at them with the Paragraph Designer and
Character Designer dialog boxes open to see how the formats are set up.
Go to www.adobe.com/support/downloads and navigate to the correct area
for your platform. There are six sets of templates, with many templates
in each set. They're a great basis for creating your own formats, or
just for seeing how specific formats are built. Note: These formats were
created for Frame 5, and as far as I know, they haven't been updated for
Frame 6.

Join the Framers list. Go to www.frameusers.com, scroll down the home
page a bit, and there's a place to register. You'll find lots of help on
that list.

Best of luck to you,

Jo
