Oh, all right! Last Saturday was the first day of the Goods and
Services Tax (GST) in Australia. It is like the British VAT or state
sales taxes in the USA. For business to implement it has been like Y2K
cubed.
The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has implemented a GST hotline for
the anxious. When you dial 1300 302 502, a male voice says "Press 1 if
you understand English. Press 2 if you do NOT understand English.". So
there.
