The last time I talked to an HR department (golly, 5 years ago), they gave
me an overview of what the company did, talked about its structure and
culture, and asked for years of experience and some practical questions
similar to the following:

1) We want a full-time, on-site employee (or whatever you want for this
position). Will this work?

2) We want someone who would plan to stay with the company for at least
________. Of course, you can't predict the future, but does that sound
reasonable?

3) We want someone who will be able to start within __________. What is
your current employment situation, and how much notice would you need to
give if we offer you a job?

4) The salary range for this job is ___________. Would you fit somewhere in
there?

In this job market, people probably aren't desperate enough to lie if the
job doesn't sound like a good fit.
