Bottom line: It doesn't matter what your background
is. For the most part, the most productive people will
stay and the least productive people will go. There
may be variations on that theme (expensive v. cheap,
etc.), but that will be the major differentiator.

Does that mean English lit majors can't be productive
with technical information? No. Does that mean the
resident bit head can write well enough so people
understand? Again, no.

It's not either/or, folks. It's both, plus the ability
to get on with people. You need all three of those
things to be successful. </soapbox>
