It's a formatted text file which is displayed on a Unix terminal, one
screen full of text at a time.
"man" is a Unix program which is used to display the page on a text-based
terminal.
Think of it as a series of 25-line by 80 character pages in a manual. It
has no more interactivity than that.
> (2) Will Acrobat Reader work on UNIX?
yes/no. Acrobat reader is available on some forms of Unix, but far from all
forms. However, a freely available alternative called xpdf is available
nearly everywhere. xpdf doesn't have the same level of functionality as
Acrobat, but it will display the material (don't think it will do
hyperlinks of any kind, however).
> (3) Can one create straight HTML for a UNIX browser?
HTML is HTML. Platform doesn't eneter into it. Therefore, yes, one can
create "straight HTML" and read it in any of the browsers which run on
Unix. Don't get real fancy with the page layout, as Unix browsers are only
slightly better at following standards than browsers on any other platform.
