Sierra, you hang tough. This is a hard spot, I know. It's tough, especially if
the engineer is older and (one might assume) more the wiser. In this case,
however, YOU are the professional writer and YOU are correct. If one is tasked
with writing a "user manual" or "user guide" the emphasis of the information is
on using the software from the USER's perspective.
This engineer sounds really "old school." Point in case, s/he refers to
him/herself as "engineer" and not "programmer" or "developer" or "designer."
I am outraged for you that s/he presented you with a manual as a sample of what
ought to be done.
Obviously an ego to be stroked, and this will not be the last time. Trust
yourself. You have the right idea. You weren't asked to write a reference
manual, admin guide, or data dictionary. You've got credentials, too.
Smile and catch this fly with honey, but ABSOLUTELY employ the "I don't think
so" reply...
