Gang,

In brief: if you have complaints about the topics on the 
list, then start a thread on something you want to read about
or delete the stuff you don't want to read. 

Yes, tool-related topics are nearly always better handled on
tool-specific lists, just as copyediting is best dealt with
on the copyediting list, linguistics on a linguistics list,
and so forth. That said, the boundaries are often quite fuzzy, 
and it's not at all difficult to come up with examples of 
tool-related questions that really do fit here better than 
other places.

TECHWR-L is for _technical communication discussions_, which
by their nature include a variety of other topics and often
bridge several different subject areas. It's the responsibility
of individual posters to keep the discussions focused on 
technical communication, and leave the specifics (ideosyncracies)
of given subject areas to other, more appropriate, forums
when necessary. 

Whining (and trolling, and flame-baiting) on the list 
accomplishes nothing and is clearly not technical communication 
related in even the broadest sense, so should be dropped now.
