"...I do not want to remove anything on it because I feel that it
contains pertinent information regarding application/software,
documentation, and creative knowledge.
Is a three page resume too long under today's standards for a
technical writer with about five years of experience?"

A friend once told me that a good resume does not get you a job. A
good resume gets you an interview; a good interview gets you a job.
A resume should give the person on the other end enough background on
what you're about to get them interested in calling you for an
interview. That's not saying that the information on a lengthy resume
is fluff and should be forgotten. The detailed information should be
brought up in the interview to highlight work experience and elaborate
on sample pieces. When it comes to resumes, less is definitely more.
