In Word 2000 (can't remember if it's similar in previous versions):
1 - Select Hyperlink from the Insert menu. Word will display the Insert
Hyperlink dialog box.
2 - In the 'Type the file or Web page name' field, enter the path and file
name of your ASCII file. You can also browse to the file.
3 - Change the 'Text to display' value, if desired.
4 - Click OK.
