PBW,

You've answered your own question. You work for the agency, not for the
client. If they offer you a different assignment, presumably they want
you to accept it; it is their responsibility (not yours) to satisfy the
terms of their contract with the current client. Let them handle the
notice to your current client. You do what you have to about wrapping up
loose ends, knowledge transfer, etc.; shake hands with everyone; let
them take you out lunch; and move on.
