I suggest you go to school if you have the time and the money. I highly
recommend Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (www.rpi.edu), as that is where I
went.
Sure, a science and engineering school might be the last place a writer
wants to spend four years, but the tech comm courses there are top notch.
RPI focuses on the techie side of writing - documentation of processes,
specifications and yes, end-user docs too. The school is also heavy into
computers (duh). You'll learn a lot about Web authoring, document design and
delivery, technology trends and perhaps a little Help authoring.
