Mark Dempsey asks:
Can anyone tell me the origins of this movement toward task-orientation in
writing?
Tony Markatos responds:
Tom DeMarco wrote a very popular book on task-oriented technical
communications back in the latter 70's.. Read 'Structured Systems Analysis
and Specification' Tom DeMarco, Yourdon Press 1979.
(Note: technical communications do not have to be written; in fact, for
software products, written communications are a poor form of communication -
especially compared with effective graphics.)
