Northeastern University in Boston offers both a Master's degree (Master's in
Technical and Professional Writing) and a Certificate level (Technical
Writing Training Program) in tech comm. Check out Northeastern's web site at
http://www.casdn.neu.edu/graduate/

In the interest of full disclosure, I teach in both programs. Many of the
instructors are full-time technical communicators, so you get a "real world"
flavor in those courses.

Also in the Boston area, you might want to check out Bentley College's
programs in Information Design. Contact Bentley at www.bentley.edu (no
affilitation there, but some good people in both colleges).

Marguerite Krupp

Dear TECHWR-L subscribers,

I am considering a career change and would like to enter the technical
writing profession. I have general knowledge in the use of several
industry programs such as MS Word and Adobe Framemaker. I am uncertain
whether I should pursue a degree program or certificate program in
technical writing. Can any of you offer suggestions? Also, I was
wondering if you know the best schools that offer tech. writing
programs? The location is not important, since I am willing to travel
anywhere in North America to attend a good school. I would greatly
appreciate any information you can provide. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Sarah Park
