TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I ran across a technote on Adobe's site that indicated problems because they
released Acrobat 4 before MS released Office 2000. Adobe wasn't able to
test/debug PDFMaker with MSWord2000 and they say that MSWord freezes when
PDFMaker is used.
We still have Acrobat 3.1 and COULD download the beta PDFMaker for MSWord 97
from Adobe. We haven't upgraded to Acrobat 4 yet because we're waiting for
it to stabilize. It really doesn't give us many extra features anyhow;
except for a supported version of PDFMaker. Has anyone worked through this
situation yet?
Note: PDFMaker is an Adobe supplied MSWord plug-in that automatically adds
structured PDF bookmarks and hyper linked cross-references to the MSWord
files.
thanx,
David Neufeld
